Today in the Adopt-a-Plots: Colocasia

Add a bit of the tropics to your garden with this large leaf wonder! Often called elephant ears, and it’s easy to see why, Colocasia is a dramatic, easy to grow plant that has a shape and structure unlike any other plant.

Fair warning, you may want to add a new garden once you discover Colocasia.  There are many varieties from which to choose. This bulb enjoys full sun to part shady spots that are organically rich and medium moist to wet. Heights of the various varieties range from three to six feet in height.

There are few plants that I like on their own, and this is one of them. A large stand of different varieties of this plant would be stunning.
The down side: bulbs should be overwintered indoors.

Planted in front of the large Elephant Ears are Caladiums: which offers a wide variety of colors from which to choose.
